The survey considers the present state of the China satellite navigation system BeiDou/COMPASS. The orbit constellation is reviewed on various development steps, service area, measurement accuracy, availability, continuity, signal/code structures. When fully deployed, the space constellation of BeiDou will consist of five Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites, twenty-seven Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites and three Inclined Geosynchronous Satellite Orbit (IGSO) satellites. The current BeiDou space segment consists of 5 GEO satellites, 5 IGSO satellites and 4 MEO satellites. BeiDou adopts the China Geodetic Coordinate System 2000 and uses the BeiDou navigation satellite system time related to the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The BeiDou signal multiplexing mode is Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). The satellites must broadcast 11 signals with BOC, MBOC, AltBOC and QPSK modulation. The ground control segment consists of the Master Control Station (MCS), Time Synchronization/Upload Stations (TS/US) and Monitor Stations (MS). The BeiDou has four types of services: open, authorized, wide-area differential, short messages. At the current stage, the BeiDou regional service capability has been achieved, which can provide continuous open services to the area, including the most part of the region from 55°S to 55°N, 70°E to150°E: position accuracy (95%)10 m (horizontal and vertical), velocity accuracy ≤0.2m/s, time accuracy ≤50ns (≤20ns for full scale BeiDou). The survey considers the BeiDou user receivers and future development.
