The limiting sensitivity of wideband radio direction finders with equidistant circular array of omni-directional antennas

The paper is devoted the analysis of frequency dependence of limiting sensitivity of wideband radio direction finders with equidistant circular array of omni-directed antennas. As criteria direction finder sensitivity, on the lower frequencies of operating band the r.m.s. error is used as an accuracy measure, while on the upper frequencies – the probability of an anomalous error as a reliability measure of direction finding is assumed. Sensitivity of a direction finder is understood as the minimum value of electromagnetic field provided by the object. The value is set at location of antenna of a radio direction finder. This value guarantees that the levels will not exceed two criteria. The design procedure is offered which uses criterion of probability of an anomalous error of direction finding. Dependence of direction finding sensitivity of multi-channel direction finders with ring antenna arrays of array radius to wavelength ratio is analyzed. The conclusion is drawn that frequency associations of probability of an anomalous error and a mean squared deviation of a normal error of direction finding are with other things being equal defined by the form of the vector complex diagramme of a directedness of antenna system of a direction finder.
