In this article we present a new method of focusing astronomical instruments with matrix receivers. The method relies on the analysis of a star image with the reciprocal movement of the focal plane array (FPA). Analyzing the location of the two local maxima of the star’s track, corresponding to the passage’s plane of the best focus, we can calculate the time between these maxima. If the position of the FPA is bound to the internal timer, the best-focus plane can be determined from the motion chart.
