In the present work limiting characteristics of tunable delay lines (TDLs) based on the phase circuits are analyzed. The brief theory and schematic realization of phase circuits are considered. For unbalanced phase circuits the limiting expressions connecting group delay, bandwidth and schematic order (quantity of lumped elements) are obtained. Further two practical TDL circuits based on the phase circuits are considered. The first schematic was a lumped element phase contour of the 2nd order. The second represents a microwave phase circuit based on the coupled strip lines. Group delay and amplitude frequency response were calculated and presented for each circuit.
